The South Korean automaker has announced their biggest SUV ever at the Detroit Auto Show. Named Kia Telluride, it is based on Hyundai Palisade and will accommodate eight passengers easily, making it the biggest Kia ever.
The Kia Telluride looks huge and powerful with its squared headlights, a big grille with chrome accents, and a notably commanding hood. There is also a big roof rack, perfect to carry stuff for full family expeditions.
Kia isn’t offering any choice in the engine department. The only option is 3.8-liter V6 creating 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the front wheels. The all-wheel drive is optional.
To make the SUV perfect for different driving conditions, the drivetrain includes Smart, Eco, Sport, and Comfort driving modes. All these modes split the power to both front and rear wheels differently except Eco and Smart, which only send power to the front wheels. The Comfort renders 80:20 split and the Sport has 65:35 front/rear split. The SUV has the power to tow up to 5,000 lbs (2267 kg.)
The Kia Telluride can be a very safe SUV if you opt for Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, Safe Exist Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Head-Up Display, Driver Talk, Quiet Mode, and Rear Occupant Alert.
Inside, it includes a big 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility along with a 10-speaker, 630-watt audio system from Harman Kardon, a wireless charging doc, and six USB charging ports.
The production of the Kia Telluride will start soon with deliveries expected later this year. Kia will reveal the pricing details before the market launch.
