The American automaker surprisingly revealed Cadillac’s first EV design yesterday soon after announcing its plans to make Cadillac its premium luxury brand. The news came after the unveiling of the 2020 XT6 crossover during the media start for the 2019 North American International Auto Show.
The Cadillac’s first EV design looks pretty similar to the Escala concept car, which the automaker introduced in 2016. Although GM did not name the car yet, we believe it has already been given a green light, as the official images also gave us an inside look of the electric crossover. The interior looks innovative and lush.
The American automaker did not give us the date of its arrival, however, previously they hinted at the launch date of 2021. To improve its product unveiling pace, we might see a new model after every six months. The new unveilings will include the XT6, an updated Escalade, a new CT4, and a CT5. A performance sedan is also on the list.
As discussed earlier in this week, Cadillac will lead GM’s electrification push in the worldwide market. This will hit Tesla hard, which is the biggest electric automaker in the U.S.A.
The new modular platform by GM, known as BEV3, is already in works. It is designed to accommodate battery in the floor and electric units on the axles. The platform is made to render over 300 miles of driving range. Although the modular platform will underpin different types of models, the first electric car from Cadillac will be a mid-size crossover to rival the Tesla Model X.
