Lexus has plans to introduce its first electric vehicle under its entry-level UX crossover nameplate. We have learned from AutoGuide that the automaker filed for trademark UX300e name in Europe. Although the name does not reveal it will be an electric car, we can safely assume the letter ‘e’ denotes ‘electric’, same as ‘h’ implies ‘hybrid’ in Lexus’ naming convention.

The Lexus UX underpins the same architecture as available in the Toyota C-HR. Since Toyota does not have any electric car in the lineup, Lexus might have to transform UX electric crossover completely to accommodate the batteries and electric motors.

Talking about the trademark UX300e in Europe means it might not reach the U.S. and probably not in the UAE any time soon.

We do not know much about the electric UX since the automaker did not publicly reveal its plans for an electric Lexus. We are speculating the electric UX might be an SUV with an affordable price tag making it a reasonable purchase for buyers. The UX crossover starts at $33,025 in the U.S. while the recently introduced UX 200 model in the UAE starts at AED 150,000.

Lexus might give us more information on the UX300e at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show or the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show!
