The Chinese electric car company NIO, after the rewarding launch of its ES8 luxury electric SUV, has launched another electric SUV – the NIO ES6 SUV. Smaller and more economical, the crossover electric SUV was unveiled at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center during the 2018 NIO Day and is the third production model launched by the company.
The ES6 SUV goes past the previous designs launched by the company bringing a sleek, yet casual exterior that holds an improved interior equipped with high-end technology. The electric SUV features Nio Pilot hardware containing an EyeQ4 chip from Mobileye and a set of 23 sensors, which enable the vehicle to receive over-the-air updates. In addition, the NIO ES6 SUV has an artificially intelligent speech-based interactive system as well as an intelligent fragrance system, which allows the user to choose from four fragrance options according to their mood.

The NIO ES6 SUV comes in two versions: Standard and Performance. Both versions can be paired with either a standard 70 kilowatt per hour battery or an 84 kilowatt per hour battery. The standard version has a dual motor powered all-wheel drive system, which works by a 214 horsepower electric motor present at each axle. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometer per hour in 5.6 seconds.
The Performance version, on the other hand, has a 214 horsepower electric motor at the front wheel axle, while the rear axle has a 321 horsepower electric motor. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometer per hour in 4.7 seconds. The Standard variant delivers 408 kilometers and 479-kilometer drive range with 70-kWh battery and 84-kWh battery respectively. The Performance variant offers 430 kilometers and 508-kilometer drive range.
When it comes to price, the NIO ES6 SUV is less expensive than the company’s previous SUV, the ES8. It is priced at around $52,000 (358,000 yuan) for the standard version with the 70 kW/h battery. The standard version with the 84 kW/h unit costs $59,155. The ES6 Performance with the 70 kW/h costs buyers $57,705, and the 84 kW/h Performance version SUV wears a price tag of $64,955.
Currently, the automaker is taking orders for the NIO ES6 SUV from within China only. The deliveries are scheduled for June 2019.
