The Japanese automaker has introduced the all-new Nissan LEAF NISMO RC electric race car during the annual NISMO Festival at Fuji International Speedway. Featuring more than double power and torque output of its previous model, it was displayed next to Nissan’s new Formula E electric race car.
The zero-emission Nissan LEAF NISMO RC is powered by two electric motors installed on both sides of the chassis. Both motors create 120 kW each and an enormous 640 Nm of torque. The power goes to all the wheels with independent torque distribution for better grip of tires and quick cornering. Nissan has used a complete carbon-fiber racing monocoque structure to reduce the weight to just 1,220 kilograms. This results in quicker acceleration and better performance. Nissan says it can cover 100 km/h from a standstill position in only 3.4 seconds. This is 50% quicker compared to the last Nismo RC.
“The all-new LEAF NISMO RC shows how we’re setting our sights even higher when it comes to raw power and performance – making electric vehicles even more exciting for customers,” stated Executive Vice President Daniele Schillaci, Nissan’s global head of marketing, sales and electric vehicles. “It’s our most thrilling expression yet of the philosophy of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”
Nissan did not only improve the performance of the race car but also made it more aggressive by installing Nissan’s signature V-motion grille, silver-and-black paint scheme with NISMO red accents, removable front and rear sections, fixed windows, LED headlights and tail lights, and an adjustable rear wing. Nissan also made this model a little longer than its ancestor did.
The automaker will only build six units of Leaf Nismo RC and position them around the globe so that electric racecar enthusiasts can experience this car’s thrilling performance. The electric race car will be shown to the public at major shows and events as well.
