The Gitex Technology Week has started and with it comes new automotive innovations that would drive the future of transportation and mobility. Meet UAE’s first driverless taxi presented by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The region’s first driverless taxi will transport the Dubai Metro and Tram commuters on specific roads in the Dubai Silicon Oasis. The taxi features all the necessary tools to ensure a safe and secure journey.
“The autonomous taxi contributes to the integration of mass transport systems by facilitating the movement of public transport users to reach their final destinations (last mile),” stated Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.
The autonomous taxi is a step toward smart Dubai, which aims at transforming 25% of the emirate’s total commutes into self-driving journeys in the next 12 years.
Today is the second day of Gitex Technology Week, which will last three more days. Under the theme of ‘Experience Future Urbanism’, there is a lot to explore in this event. We will share with you other auto-related technologies throughout the week, so stay tuned.
