To encourage women to take part in race championships, organizers have declared that they will launch an all-female W Series race championship in 2019. This provides a great scope for women racers to move up the ladder in the motorsports field.

The W Series will feature 18-20 cars with female drivers. According to organizers, the purpose of this series is to bring forward female racers who have been overlooked in other racing series.

Some critics say the W Series will cause a distraction for female racers competing in big racing series or jostling for support to compete in those top series.

David Coulthard, an ex-racer and a W Series consultant, said the series would provide coverage and prospect to new female drivers. He also stated usually female racers could only reach to Formula 3 level on their learning curve of the careers. It mainly happens due to the absence of funding, not because of a deficiency of talent.

Moving on, the all-female W Series race championship will take place in Europe in 2019. The drivers will get behind Tatuus T-318 Formula 3 cars housing a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine mated to six-speed sequential transmission. They will feature halo safety devices for driver’s safety. The organizers did not release any further details about the race series except that it will expand outside of Europe to Asia and North America after their inaugural season.

The winner will receive $500,000 prize money.
