The official Road Safety Partner of UAE, Volvo Cars took part in the two-day Global Road and Traffic Safety conference in Abu Dhabi and reviewed the key tasks the government has to complete to introduce self-driving technology in the region. The main stakeholders and decision-making members from public and private segments showed up at the Global Road and Traffic Safety conference to discuss the road safety standards.
Talking about the future of road safety at the Global Road and Traffic Safety conference, Marcus Rothoff, Autonomous Drive Solution Architect, Director, Volvo Car Group – Sweden, remarked, “In line with the UAE Vision 2021 of creating a sustainable environment and infrastructure, Volvo Cars aims to lead the change towards building smart cities, which requires joint efforts among the public and private sectors. As a human-centric brand, we at Volvo aim to improve the daily lives of our customers through a holistic view of a future of mobility that is autonomous, electric, connected and safe.” Rothoff added: “Autonomous drive and safety are closely connected, and the technology has the potential to deliver the most significant improvement in traffic safety since Volvo Cars invented the three-point safety belt in 1959.”
Volvo Cars have introduced something new, which would allow self-driving cars to safely communicate with all other drivers on the road. Known as the 360c autonomous concept, it takes into consideration every aspect that will make autonomous travel safe and convenient. The suggestions include city planning, infrastructure, present society’s environmental footprints and so on. The concept is not only about reimagining the day-to-day travel, but it is also about how travelers can spend time while on the move. The potential of the autonomous technology is huge and this concept is just a step toward an extensive dialogue.
There is no doubt autonomous technology will take time to fully show its colors and fruits. It is possible that completely self-driving cars will run alongside human drivers. The emphasis is on building a universally applicable standard for all autonomous brands.
The 360c features a standard, which consists of external sounds, colors, visuals, movements, in addition to mixtures of these tools to convey the car’s plans to other road users, so they know what it is going to do next.
