Aston Martin has released their most exciting creation ever, the Aston Martin Cygnet at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The one-off example has been christened ‘The Ultimate City Car‘ carrying an Aston Martin Vantage S’s 4.7-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine which pumps out 430 horsepower and 361 lb-ft of torque.
Aston Martin made this car for a customer who requested Cygnet through the ‘Q by Aston Martin – Commission’ service. This service permits enthusiasts to order a customized Aston Martin but naturally, the price for this bespoke personalization service is very high.
Speaking at the release Aston Martin Vice President & Special Operations Officer, David King said: “The V8 Cygnet shows the fun side of both Aston Martin and its customers. It is also a fine example of the engineering talent within the company as it’s no small achievement to fit the Vantage’s V8 engine so harmoniously into the Cygnet’s compact body. I am sure that it will amaze and thrill people when they see and hear it on the hill at the Festival of Speed.”
The engineers at Aston Martin started off the build with an old steel body Cygnet. A roll cage was then added to the frame to strengthen the body. Engineers also had to alter the front firewall and transmission tunnel to make way for the large 4.7-liter V8 engine. Furthermore, the new suspension from the Vantage and a steel fuel tank was added to complete the entire skeleton of the car.
Even though the Aston Martin Cygnet went through various changes and enhancements, it retained the original outer shape to a large extent. However, the wide bodywork which makes way for bigger 19-inch tires is recognizably different from the original Cygnet. The rear end has received two sporty exhausts with mufflers and catalytic converters.
The immense power and torque coming from the engine are handled by the Vantage’s seven-speed transmission and a small torque tube that transfers energy to the thick Bridgestone tires. As a result, the gutsy car goes from naught to 62 mph in only 4.2 seconds and goes to a top speed of 170 mph.
The interior is largely taken from the Vantage S, so there are Recaro seats, leather touches on the steering and the instrument panel, and air-conditioning along with USB ports.
