Volvo announces the creation of the M Brand, which will give “on-demand access” to vehicles and services via a smartphone app. ‘M’ stands for mobility but Volvo is looking to change the meaning of mobility services. The brand is based on an innovative technology that lets it comprehend user’s wants instead of providing the time and location for picking up a car.
“We’re focused on the way people use the cars they own, which sets us apart. We aim to provide a real alternative to that experience. It should enable us to live life on our terms, getting things done and maximizing precious time,” Bodil Eriksson, CEO of Volvo Car Mobility, said.
Volvo did not disclose any intimate details about the brand but they said that the ‘M’ will be very different from similar car-sharing services. Volvo will use the services of their subsidiary Sunfleet, which is Sweden’s top car-sharing group with 1,700 vehicles on the road. By installing M technology in Sunfleet cars, Volvo will learn more about the business from Sunfleet’s 20 years of experience.
The M brand is a brainchild of Volvo’s ‘Freedom to Move’ philosophy, which has in the past fueled efforts in the Care by Volvo sector. ‘M’ will be based in Sweden’s capital Stockholm and will be launched next year in Sweden and the United States. Further details about the brand will be disclosed later this year.
