Rimac and Tesla are two biggest competitors of Porsche in the electric sports car market. To make its position stronger, Porsche has bought 10-percent shares in Rimac. The Porsche-Rimac partnership will see the two companies sharing ideas and technology with each other.
“We feel that Rimac’s ideas and approaches are extremely promising, which is why we hope to enter into close collaboration with the company in the form of a development partnership,” said Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman of the executive board and member of the executive board for finance and IT at Porsche.
Rimac not only makes electric supercars, they are proficient in making electric car components, which is what Porsche is really after. Porsche has its eyes on the battery technology and electric powertrains made by the Croatian automobile manufacturer.
Cashing best from this Porsche-Rimac partnership, they hope to become an important supplier of electric vehicle components in the progressive market. “This partnership now is an important step for Rimac on our way to becoming a component and system supplier of choice for the industry in electrification, connectivity and the exciting field of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems”, said Rimac’s CEO Mate Rimac, in a statement.
The company has proved its mettle in the past with the Concept_One and C_Two supercars. The C_Two is set to become the fastest electric supercar with its 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.85 seconds, only if Tesla and Porsche don’t get anything better.
