Since the release of Honda Civic Type-R, the car has been breaking records. It did it at the Nürburgring in Germany and Magny Cours in France. The sports hatchback is back again with a new record and this time it set the record in Belgium. Mr. Bertrand Baguette, who is Honda’s Super GT professional driver, drove the front-wheel-drive Type-R around the Spa Francorchamps circuit in a record time of 2 minutes and 53.72 seconds, which is a new record for a production FWD car.
It was a proud moment for Honda as the new Type-R made its previous record better, which it completed two years back in 2 minutes and 56.91 seconds.
The Spa Francorchamps track is 4.35 miles long featuring a number of high-speed straights and turns that require immense talent by the driver and superb engineering on behalf of the car’s engineers. To add in the difficulty, the track has hilly areas as well as low-speed squeezes that test engines to their limit.
The crazy fast Honda Civic Type-R houses a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that makes an incredible 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque using a 6-speed manual transmission. This setup takes the car from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds.
Honda is not settling for this record and hopes to break other European track records at Silverstone, Estoril, and Hungaroring.
