Sebastien Vettel has taken first place at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix which is his first win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after 14 long years. With his win, Vettel has increased Ferrari’s chances of grabbing the Constructor’s Championship title. Ferrari stands at second place with 189 points right after Mercedes-AMG that takes the top spot with 206 points.
The veteran German driver had managed to secure the pole position in the qualifying round on Saturday, which gave him the leverage to dictate the end result of the race on Sunday. He drove expertly on the track and never let any other opponent cross him for the first place. All that could have been different had the starting be perfect. Unfortunately, at the start of the race, driver Lance Stroll lost control of his car and headed straight into Brendon Hartley’s race machine.
The race faced a hiatus as the Safety Car pulled out but immediately after the race resumed, Sebastien Vettel regained control and increased the gap between him and his pursuers Valterri Bottas and Max Verstappen. The Driver’s Championship’s previous leading driver, Lewis Hamilton did not have the best day. His Mercedes had a cooling malfunction due to a part in the chassis, which was resolved, but Hamilton couldn’t recover after that and finished 5th.
The next Grand Prix is due to be held in France, and there is still hope for Lewis Hamilton to fight off Sebastian Vettel and his advances to grab the Driver’s Championship trophy.
