Cadillac finally announced the expansion of their advanced intelligent and connected technology, Super Cruise at the Intelligent Transportation Society’s annual conference in Detroit, last Wednesday. The announcement was made by Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain who told media that Super Cruise will be available in all Cadillac models from the start of 2020. Later it will be offered in other GM marques too. After Super Cruise’s full implementation, Cadillac intends to V2X communications technology in 2023. The Super Cruise is available on 2018 CT6.
“The expansion of Super Cruise and V2X communications technology demonstrates Cadillac’s commitment to innovation, and to making customers’ lives better,” Reuss said. “GM is just as committed to ushering in a new era of personal transportation, and technologies like these will enable it.”
“Cadillac is proud to be the leader for the company’s innovation,” said Steve Carlisle, Cadillac president. “Groundbreaking technologies like these continue to provide unparalleled comfort and convenience for our customers.”
Cadillac calls Super Cruise world’s first true hands-free driver assistance tech for the freeway and why it shouldn’t? It employs LiDAR map data, high precision GPS, a high-tech driver attention system and a network of camera and radar sensors. For drivers to use the hands-free system, they need an active OnStar service plan with emergency services. It will allow them to cover 130,000 miles of limited-access freeways in the U.S. and Canada. Motorists must understand that they cannot divert their attention off the road while using Super Cruise and they must be attentive and ready to take charge when needed.
Cadillac’s vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications technology was first featured on 2017 CTS which uses Basic Safety Message to develop a V2X ecosystem. The system permits vehicles to communicate with each other about dangerous road situations, traffic light position, varying work zones and more.
