BMW has spoiled the job of spy photographers by sharing photos of the upcoming BMW X5 by itself. The SUV is seen in a video undergoing road tests before its release in late 2018 or in the beginning of 2019 as a 2019 model. From the video, we get very good idea of the design of the fourth generation X5.
It looks more defined and dominant than its predecessor. However, instead of being distinct in design, it looks more like a good improvement in the older design. The upcoming BMW X5 largely differs from its predecessor in its chassis. The CLAR modular platform that was first introduced in the 7-series back in 2016 will be featured in the mid-size SUV making it light and more responsive in handling.
There are no hints on the power under the hood but it is expected that the powertrain of the updated 5-Series will be borrowed. Conforming to future demands, an electrified version will also be made available along with an X5 M model.
The 2019 model will go into production inside the USA at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. With this entry, BMW hopes to take back the lost market share in the mid-size SUV market.
