In order to give buyers a more integrated role in the design process, last month Nissan started a contest that allowed users to give feedback and vote on the appearance of the Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol. The concept SUV is Nissan’s entry for the Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona that is due to be held this weekend. The result of the crowd-sourced project is in.
Since the concept was based on overlanding, enthusiasts had the option of either making the SUV better off-road or better as a campsite on wheels. The SUV is based on a stock 2018 Armada 4WD that is highly capable of going off-road all by itself. Underneath its hood is a massive 5.6-liter V8 engine that produces 390 hp while being teamed with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
To enhance the Armada’s capabilities further, Nissan added 17-inch Icon Bronze Rebound rims that are clothed by 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. Furthermore, a Calmini 6-inch lift kit and Icon coil-over suspension with long A-arms have been added to the vehicle. Not many improvements are made in the drivetrain, which shows automaker’s belief in the Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol to conquer the mountains.
As Overlanding is all about adorning the vehicle with amenities, the fans speak out about it. The 2018 Armada gets Baja Design auxiliary lights and light bar as well as a Rhino-Rack BackBone cargo roof mount. It also fits reinforced Calmini steel bumpers, a Warn Zeon Platinum 12S Winch, Calmini rock rails, and a special purpose Hi-Lift jack. For camping purposes, there is an Mt. Shasta tent on the roof with a room for four, Rhino-Rack Batwing awning, ARB fridge, ARB drawer system, ARB dual-screw air compressor, and Pelican 1650 hard cases. The bespoke orange colored wrap is also chosen by voters.
