Waze is a popular navigation app that Ford promised using in its upcoming vehicles along with the Sync 3 infotainment system. Ford made good on their promise, two months later than originally scheduled, by introducing Waze connectivity with Sync 3 infotainment system for iPhone users.
The Ford’s technology allows iPhone users to seamlessly connect their device to a Ford vehicle via a USB cable, triggering the Waze application to power up the vehicle’s display. Users will be able to access and enjoy all of Waze’s features like voice guidance to help around with navigation, Waze Speedometer, HOV route support, and Spotify connectivity.
The app updates users on traffic and road conditions ahead. That’s what other navigation apps also do but what makes Waze unique is its engaging social experience. Users can share information about routes with others allowing them to take the necessary precaution. For instance, users can share the location of a police vehicle in the vicinity alerting other drivers to be cautious.
Fortunately, for those who don’t own a Ford vehicle, Waze made an announcement in January promising to work together with Smart Device Link (SDL) bringing the Waze app to more car marques in the future.
All the latest Ford vehicle owners, particularly of 2018 vehicles, get Waze connectivity with Sync 3 immediately. However, older model owners having Sync 3 in their vehicle will have to use USB connectivity.
