Al Futtaim Auto & Machinery Co. (FAMCO) and Volvo Buses have signed the biggest supply contract with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. The order, which is also FAMCO’s largest deal with RTA, is to supply 143 Volvo luxury intercity coaches for the next two years. The biggest supply contract signed by FAMCO with Dubai RTA is also a breakthrough as it is up till now the most significant deal made in the UAE for the purchase of intercity coaches.
The Volvo Buses is the first company to implement the Euro 6 Standards for the Middle East which are based on certain safety standards, fuel efficiency and emissions. This had a significant impact on the success of contract which was analyzed against RTA’s strict 10-year ownership condition.
The Senior Vice President for Volvo Buses Region International made a statement after the deal, “Being the first bus manufacturer to introduce Euro 6-standards to the Middle East has enabled us to deliver the most fuel-efficient, cost-effective and environmentally conscious public transport solution, helping the RTA to continue to lead the way in safety and sustainability. These buses mark the beginning of a new breed of modern buses focused on delivering clean, safe and efficient public transport.”

Volvo Buses promise the highest level of efficiency while effectively controlling fuel emissions. The buses have an in-built real-time device which provides the driver with constant guidance and feedback on various actions ensuring minimum accidents. To further improve the safety in the buses, the Volvo Driver Support System gives instructions to circumvent collisions and keep a safe distance from the surrounding vehicles, ensuring road safety for everyone. Volvo coaches focus on comfort and reliability. The buses provided to RTA will have Sunsundegui SC5 bodies and modern ITS systems. With 55 ISRI seats in each bus and wooden floors, the coach will have a complete range of accessories to bring convenience and comfort to the passengers.
