McLaren has turned to Chinese fashion line Cabbeen for inspiration to give its limited edition 570GT a unique touch. The car which was showcased at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show has dragons printed in various places inside and outside the car. The car was designed in China but built in the U.K.
Only 5 examples will be produced which is painted Obsidian Black and has Gloss Speedline Gold paintwork on the wheels and brake calipers. The dragons painted on the two doors are made entirely by hand. The dragons found inside on the center console and at the trunk lid are embroidered. The embroidery is sewn by China’s Arts and Crafts Institute director of professional embroidery committee, Kang Huifang. She has preserved and worked tirelessly to promote the ancient art of Chao Embroidery.
McLaren chose this particular embroidery style because it is part of China’s ancient history and cultural heritage. This makes the limited edition 570GT even more special.
It is possible that this initiation is part of European vehicular brand’s popular infiltration in the Chinese market. Hopefully, McLaren could increase its dealings with the Chinese market through MSO and would bring forward interesting new projects.
