The Chinese firm BAIC has made a thorough copy of the Mercedes-AMG G63. It is not the first time a Chinese company has blatantly copied a European vehicle’s design and it might not be the last. BAIC already has the Mercedes-Benz G-Class’s copycat BJ80 as part of its fleet. But on the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, they have taken a huge step ahead by unveiling the 6×6 version.

However, the copy is only limited to the design. The 6×6 BJ80 is powered by a small 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower compared to Mercedes’s monstrous dual turbocharged V8 that expels 544 horsepower. No further details have been released about the vehicle.

BAIC and Daimler both have a stake in the Benz Beijing, which is responsible for producing most of the Mercedes models for the Chinese market excluding the G-Class SUVs and crossovers.

Though the vehicle does not showcase any Mercedes hallmarks, it certainly looks like a copy of the Mercedes-AMG G63. It would be blasphemy to compare the 6×6 BJ80 with the original Mercedes-AMG G63 especially considering it is nowhere near its European counterpart in power and performance. The Chinese firm BAIC has tried changing the front-end to look different otherwise the style and shape are hard to miss.
