In its bid to extend luxury services to its customers, the Swedish brand has finished the first round of tests for a Volvo pickup and delivery valet service in California. Volvo declared last week that the technology will turn a new page in valet services in the United States.

The service is unique in that when users plan on repairs or service of their Volvo vehicle, the company arranges for another vehicle for temporary usage, which is a part of Volvo On Call. A Volvo driver will deliver the substitute vehicle to the customer and when the repairs are complete, that driver requests the pickup. Volvo will deliver the customer’s car to their doorstep after the customer shares their location with Volvo.

This idea is not new in any way but Volvo aims to make it more popular and smart. In the near future, customers won’t have to be present during the switch. The user will schedule the vehicle for repairs and the authorized Volvo driver will drop off the loan vehicle and take the customer’s vehicle for repairs. Using the digital key technology, the user will be able to activate the temporary vehicle. The 2019 XC40 will be the first to come with this technology.

The Volvo pickup and delivery valet service might be added to the Volvo Care subscription in future. Presently, Volvo Care costs $600 and covers insurance, service, and repair for the XC40. Volvo hopes that by 2019, the service can be extended to other markets.
