Following the disastrous diesel emissions scandal against VW, the company faced many drawbacks. However, it has started to regain the lost respect and trust after confiding in electrification. One example of the move to a better future is the I.D.R Pikes Peak concept.
The I.D. R Pikes Peak, as its name suggests, is built to tackle the famous Pikes Peak hill climb in Colorado. While being powered by two powerful motors that will make 680 hp and 4479 lb-ft of torque, the motor car will attempt to beat the EV record of 8:57.11 set in 2013. Romain Dumas will attempt to steer the car for 12.42 miles tackling 156 lethal turns to reach the summit.
It took developers eight months to make the I.D.R Pikes Peak concept functional keeping in mind weight and downforce. The developers managed to limit the weight at around 2,500 pounds while a huge spoiler among other exterior elements has been added to achieve maximum downforce.
The VW Group ex-chairman Mathias Mueller, before his departure from the company, had revealed Roadmap E, which devotes the auto brand toward electrifying its entire fleet of vehicles by 2030. The auto world has started seeing the fruits of this commitment as VW is testing and releasing a new I.D concept every few months. The I.D Buzz, I.D Cross, and I.D. Vizzion have all been released as previews for a future model.
