The 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport is an upcoming sedan by General Motors that brings with it a new engine to the frontlines. The sedan was revealed last Wednesday along with a peek at the new engine’s specifications.
The V8 has a displacement of 4.2-liters while being accompanied by two turbochargers and a new dual overhead cam. Combining all the factors, the engine produces an impressive 550 hp at 5,700 rpm with 627 lb-ft torque in an rpm range of 3,200 – 4,000. The V8 will surely be a thirsty engine given its size and the power it produces.
In order to bring something new to the table, Cadillac engineers started from the drawing board. The engine has been given an aluminum-alloy skeleton with 86-millimeter bores which allow the piston a 90.2-millimeter stroke space. Steel and iron elements have been intermixed with the aluminum alloy to enhance the engine’s capability to withstand extreme force and combustion. The result is a highly commendable 9.8:1 compression ratio.
The engine’s compact design reduces turbo lag. The hot V design completely changes the way the cylinders inhale air and exhale it through to the turbo. Rather than having an intake on the top and the exit below, the refreshed engine design takes air from the middle portion and exhales it from the top onward to the turbo system. This system ensures a rather speedy turbo spooling.
The 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and will be assembled in GM’s Bowling Green, Kentucky plant.
The ongoing CT6 is priced at AED 215,300 in the UAE.
