BMW has delivered its 200,000th Sports Activity Coupe X4 to a customer in Asia, and next month its production will seize after which the next generation X4 will take the place of the outgoing model. The 2019 BMW X4 will be based on X3.
The new generation X4 clings to the same crossover inspired coupe design that is reminiscent of the X3 design. A 2.1-inch larger wheelbase adds 3 inches of extra space in the cabin, allowing extra legroom to rear seat occupants as well as 50.5 cubic feet of trunk space. However, that doesn’t compromise the 50:50 weight ratio of the X4.
Inside the standard vehicle are sports seats, with the X4 M40i version getting upgraded M-specific seats. The front dash holds a 10.25-inch infotainment system that comes with the new iDrive technology by BMW, as well as, gesture controls to aid the driver with minimum distractions. The new 2019 X4 has a 75% larger display than its predecessor and has an option for a completely digital instrument cluster.
Two power options will be available for the vehicle in the US market. The base model xDrive30i will have a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine force all four wheels to squeeze out 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft torque while being aided by an 8-speed automatic transmission. All this is good to take the X4 from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds.
The other option is the X4 M40i, which employs a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine capable of producing 355 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque to force the car from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds while being paired with an 8- speed automatic and an AWD functionality. Other features on the M40i include M Sport brakes, enhanced suspension, sports exhaust and more. On the outside, the X4 M40i will be recognizable from the huge air intakes and black chrome components.
The 2019 BMW X4 is expected to grace showrooms by mid-2018, with the basic model xDrive30i being priced at $50,450 and the M40i variant for an extra $10,000.
