Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has clarified that they did not set up ‘smart sensors’ in the form of stickers on Dubai’s street lights. The authority rejected all the rumors circulating on social media which state RTA stickers are used to clamp down on jaywalkers.
The misleading message shown below tells that the smart sensors on the sticker take the particulars of jaywalkers through their Emirates ID in their wallets. People breaking rules will be fined.
Khaleej Times recovered an email from RTA which states clearly the rumors are fake. The email also mentions the RTA stickers were just a serial number to every lamp post in Dubai. The RTA explained “the stickers on the poles of the pedestrian crossings traffic lights are part of RTA’s asset management system that tracks and monitor all its assets in contrary to what’s being rumored that it is related to issuing fines at pedestrian crossings.”
Many people here even took pictures of these stickers deeming them sensors.
