In the face of different progressive changes being witnessed in Saudi Arabia, allowing women to drive is one of the most popular and well-discussed ones. Saudi women drivers have been waiting for this shift in law for many years and it is finally becoming a reality in June 2018.
Faisal Abu Shousha, the chairman of automobiles committee in the Council of Saudi Chambers, said that women would be interested in medium or small cars in light of purchasing power as well as the projected rise in the price of fuel.
Auto experts also believe some women will opt for luxury cars because women tend to enjoy higher-end items, though this might not bring a big rise in sales.
Some car facilities that would be of high importance to Saudi women drivers include comfort, space, safety, and simplicity of design. A car that is family friendly, aesthetically pleasing to suit women’s tastes and that is fun to drive will definitely be popular.
Experts also point out that women are more likely to abide by regular maintenance check-ups, therefore, auto dealerships and repair facilities will have to provide special waiting areas for women as well as staff to cater to them.
