In the pursuit to reduce the rate of carbon emissions by vehicles in the United Arab Emirates, the gulf is introduced with an idea of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) by Al Futtaim Motors. These vehicles produce zero emissions and use hydrogen gas to power their electric motors and discharge harmless water as a by-product.
The only model to represent FCEV in the UAE is Toyota Mirai, which was displayed by Toyota at Dubai International Motor Show. Debates and discussions were carried out during Ignition Live Show by distinct personalities, who had come together to deliberate major topics of the auto-world. Part of the discussions held was on the matters of global warming and the steps that could serve as eco-friendly solutions to UAE.
Ralf Zimmermann, Managing Director of Aftersales Services at Al-Futtaim Automotive explained how FCEV is going to prove beneficial for green and pollution free UAE. He outlined that a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle offers a mileage of 500 km, does not pose any change in drivers’ behavior, and can be refilled in only 3 to 5 minutes time. The Toyota Mirai, which is the only demonstration of FCEV in the UAE, is set to perform government awareness road shows in the UAE, under Al Futtaim Motors till it arrives in the UAE for sale.
