We all know using mobile while driving is punishable by law in Dubai, but we still are guilty of using it. Most motorists who are fined on Dubai roads daily are mobile users. In the first three months of 2017 alone, 16,000 motorists were fined because of this.
We are talking about Dh800 fine and four black points on your license. Maybe that’s not frightening enough to deter motorists from cutting mobile phone usage. Motorists claim, they try not to use mobile while driving, but sometimes they can’t help it to take an urgent call or reply to a message.
Surely, authorities have to think of another plan to curb this practice or motorists need to be educated of using Bluetooth or Apple Carplay/Android Auto if they ever have to use their mobile phone. Though some experts even do not recommend using these technologies while driving, they do lessen the chances of distraction. Head-up displays are still a rarity, but time is not far when this technology will be available in all mainstream cars.
