The 2017 Tokyo Motor Show is just a few days away, and among many automakers, Yamaha is also prepping up to introduce some impressive concept cars. A new Yamaha concept car dubbed as “automobile design concept model” will be previewed at the show alongside 19 other models.
This isn’t the first time Yamaha is launching a four-wheel automobile. In 2015, the automaker displayed the Sports Ride concept, which used a production process called iStream, developed exclusively by Gordon Murray (designer of McLaren F1). Reports suggest the new Yamaha concept car will also adopt the same technology, which means it will make use of carbon-fiber and other lightweight and high-rigidity components. The iStream process can also significantly reduce the production cost of the vehicle and accommodate different body styles.
The Yamaha concept car is believed to be a small two-seater with a mid-engine design. Powering the concept will most likely be a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder unit developing 100 horsepower. It will weigh less than 900 kilograms with a phenomenal power-to-weight ratio.
Also present at the show will be the Yamaha Ai powered motorbike dubbed as ‘MOTOROiD’. This concept will use an electric motor along with six-cylindrical batteries. More details will be disclosed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
