The redesigned 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and WRX have both earned the Top Safety Pick+ award from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is the highest achievable recognition awarded by the organization.
Both the Subaru Crosstrek and WRX secured an overall ‘good’ rating in all the five crashworthiness tests including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. Moreover, the optional front crash prevention system earned a ‘superior’ rating. The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek also comes equipped with Subaru EyeSight system, which helps in avoiding collision at a speed of up to 25 mph.
The headlights with high-beam assist on the Limited trim earned an ‘acceptable rating’, while the regular halogens on the lower trims received ‘poor’ rating.
The Subaru WRX has been receiving the IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick+’ award since last three years (2015 to 2017). The 2018 model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine, which delivers 268 horsepower, while the price starts from $26,995. On the other hand, the Crosstrek is on the ‘Top Safety Pick+’ list since past six years (2012 to 2017). The latest Crosstrek boasts an advanced chassis system to deliver an impressive performance both on-road and off-road. It carries a price tag of $21,795.
