The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in was first shown in the concept form back in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show, and we never heard of any plans of its arrival in the U.S. until now. The automaker has finally launched the Outlander PHEV in the United States wearing a price tag of $35,535.
Powering the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in is a MIVEC 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine paired to two 60 kW electric motors; one on the front axle and the other at the back. The combined power output is 197 horsepower. Due to the space consumed by the electric motor at the back, the Outlander PHEV does not come with third-row seating.
The electric motors are powered by a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery which can be charged up to 80 percent in just half hour with a fast charger, whereas with a standard power outlet, it takes four hours to recharge.
The electric range is not confirmed at the moment, but reports suggest it will be somewhere between 12 and 20 miles.
The interior will be equipped with a seven-inch touch display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. A USB slot and an AC outlet will be available inside as well.
