UAE will soon have 50 electric vehicle chargers across northern and eastern parts of the country to facilitate electric car owners in charging their vehicles. Director of Electricity & Water Conservation at FEWA, Mohammad Babiker, told Gulf News that charging stations will be functional by the end of this year in all Northern Emirates.

The installation of 50 electric vehicle chargers is just the beginning toward establishing more electric chargers in different places like malls, universities, hospitals, and parking areas. Several areas of Sharjah that are powered by Fewa will also have electric chargers including Dhaid, Kalba, Madam, and Dibba Al Hisn.

American University in Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, public and municipality buildings are some other locations in the UAE, which will see EV charging stations.

Initiated by federal government, this project aims at encouraging people to buy eco-friendly zero emission cars, thus contributing to the UAE’s efforts in developing a pollution free atmosphere. Earlier, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy announced incentives for electric vehicle owners including free EV charging until 2019, free parking spots, free vehicle registration, free Salik tags and so on.
