The biggest event of the year for car enthusiasts, the IAA 2017 Frankfurt Motor finally Show kicked off on Thursday, 14th September and till now we have seen a plethora of impressive new hypercars, concepts, facelifted models and so much more. Although some major companies decided to skip the show including Volvo, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Fiat, yet the event left the audience completely awestruck with the display of latest technologies and the upcoming automobiles. To give you a recap, here are some of the key vehicles which were displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes
The Mercedes Project One hypercar was definitely the star of the show with its 1,000 horsepower powertrain that promises over 217 mph top speed. The road-legal car will cost approximately $2.73 million dollars. Other vehicles introduced by Mercedes included the new AMG G 43 Exclusive with a V8 powertrain, the EQA concept, Mercedes GLC F-Cell powered by hydrogen and the revamped S-Class Cabriolet and Coupe.
Audi
Audi has been busy to prepare its two most prominent concepts of all time and this 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is the perfect platform to show the world what actually are category 4 and category 5 autonomous technologies. These include Audi Aicon and Audi RS4 Avant showcasing Audi’s vision of future motoring with electric drive.
Additionally, Audi has finally launched a rear-wheel drive Audi R8 RWS boasting a 2.9-liter V6 engine developing 444 horsepower. With a number of performance upgrades and a rear-wheel drive system, the Audi R8 RWS is an ideal sports car for drifting. Apart from it, Audi also displayed the new A8 on the show.
Porsche
Being held in Germany, how can we forget about the home brand. The German automaker brought 3 cars including Cayenne, Cayenne Turbo and 911 GT3 Touring, which has no car wings.
Ford
Ford has entered the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show with a bang showing us a number of their vehicles including EcoSport crossover, European version of the updated Ford Mustang, Ford Ranger Black Edition, Ford Tourneo Custom and Ford B-Max MPV. The Ecosport was actually unveiled before the show started with a new appearance, updated cabin with new technology, a new diesel unit and an optional all-wheel drive system. The Mustang came with a new 10-speed automatic transmission and upgraded V8 engine.
Honda
While Honda didn’t come with all guns blazing, there are significant number of cars getting the attention of people comprising of Jazz, Civic diesel, CR-V and Urban EV. The Jazz came with just a minor facelift and a fresh 128bhp petrol unit. The new CR-V will be delivered to buyers very soon with more practicality and dependability. The most interesting unveiling from Honda was the Urban EV concept, a sporty city car capable of speeding on the roads with zero-emission. Honda has also announced that by 2025 their whole lineup will have fully electrified or hybrid versions of every model.
KIA
KIA brought to us a mix of new, updated and concept vehicles namely Stonic, Picanto X-Line, Proceed concept, and Sorento facelift. The Stonic was showed first time to the public and once out, it would be competing against the likes of Hyundai Kona, upcoming SEAT Arona and Nissan Juke. The Proceed concept describes the new design language of the next-gen of KIA Cee’d.
BMW
BMW took the stage of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show to display a number of new vehicles including the 2018 BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo, launching in UK in November priced from £46,810 (approximately $62,741), the BMW i3s hatchback with a tuned electric powertrain delivering 181 horsepower, the new 2018 BMW M5 with a 592 horsepower engine along with the BMW M GTE. The automaker also displayed the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept as well as the X7 SUV concept.
MINI
MINI showcased two concepts at the show; the Mini Electric concept which is due for arrival in 2019 and will most likely carry the same powertrain as the BMW i3, and the Mini John Cooper Works GP concept featuring a sporty body including carbon-fiber side skirts, 19-inch wheels, a rear wing and more.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen flaunted five new vehicles at the show including the sixth-generation Volkswagen Polo with a new MQB A0 platform, the VW T-Roc SUV which is set to arrive at the showrooms later this year with a starting price of £19,000 (approximately $25,457), the VW I.D. Crozz II SUV scheduled to launch in 2020 and the facelifted VW GOLF SV with improved exterior elements, new 9.2-inch touch display and more.
Lexus
Lexus did not display any concepts, rather it previewed the updated versions of the Lexus CT and the Lexus NX at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Both the models feature new technological equipment, safety facilities and some minor exterior upgrades.
Hyundai
Hyundai has finally showed the public how hot its i30 N performance hatchback is. The car promises so much fun. Along with it, Hyundai’s booth displayed the new Kona SUV and i30 Fastback.
Jaguar
Jaguar just showed 2 cars at the show, but man, they surely are worth exploring and looking at. The new E-Pace SUV rivaling against BMW X1, Audi Q3, and JLR’s own Range Rover Evoque, will hit the roads in the start of next year. Additionally, there is Jaguar I-pace eTrophy all-electric race car made to race in a one-make support series to the Formula E single seater championship.

Ferrari Portofino
Ferrari has replaced the popular California T with the new Ferrari Portofino carrying a 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 engine, which is powerful enough to take it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h. It will be priced from $234,000.
Lamborghini Aventador Roadster S
Lamborghini displayed its new Aventador Roadster S – a drop-top version of the regular Aventador S. Although weighing 50Kg more than the regular model, the Aventador Roadster S can hit the 100 km/h mark in just 3.0 seconds, thanks to its 730 bhp 6.5-liter V12 engine. It is priced at £251,462 (approximately $336,913).
Alpina D5 S
Alpina Automobile claims that their new D5 S is the fastest diesel production car with a 322 bhp 3.0-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo engine. It is based on the BMW 5-Series Saloon and is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds flat. The price starts from 87,900 euros (approximately $104,605).
Bentley Continental GT
Bentley also took advantage of the show to display its latest Continental GT, which rides on the Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform and is powered by a 6.0L W12 engine churning out 626 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft of torque. The pricing has not been announced yet.
Borgward Isabella Concept
The Borgward Isabella concept is a four-door coupe with an eye-catching profile featuring sliding doors, LED headlights, sloped C-pillar and a triangular display on the inside. The automaker did not reveal any powertrain specifications.
Aspark Owl
The Aspark Owl was displayed in prototype form only, and the automaker stated its plan to launch this all-electric hypercar with a 1,000 horsepower very soon, making it the fastest EV in the world.
Other notable cars which made their debut at the show include Wey XEV, Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer, Insignia GSi, Vivaro Tourer Weekender, Toyota C-HR Hy-Power, new Land Cruiser, Hilux Invincible, Suzuki Swift Sport, updated Subaru Impreza, Skoda Concept E, Renault Megane RS and more.
