The new Alpina D5 S diesel has been showcased officially at the Frankfurt Motor Show in both Saloon and Estate forms. Considered as the high-performance diesel version of the BMW 5-Series, the Alpina D5 S has been carefully tuned to impress the British and European clientele.
Powering the Alpina D5 S has a sturdy twin-turbo 3.0L straight-six diesel engine producing 322 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft of torque. The weight of the car has been reduced by 100 kilograms for better aerodynamics. It comes with a standard all-wheel drive system along with the ‘Active Steering’. The engine is paired with a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission system which allows the D5 S to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds. The top speed is capped at 170 mph (273.5 km/h).
Moreover, the Alpina D5 S boasts dynamic drive electro-mechanical anti-roll technology that ensures a smooth drive on bumpy roads and minimizes body roll around the corners.
The interior offers luxurious Nappa leather seats with 20-way adjustable options and a 12-speaker sound system. The pricing details have not been revealed yet, but reports suggest it will cost about £62,000. The deliveries will begin in 2018.
