A year back, Mercedes introduced Generation EQ concept SUV at the Paris Auto Show and announced the launch of its new EQ-sub brand for electric vehicles. This year, the automaker will add another vehicle to the EQ lineup dubbed as the Mercedes EQ electric hatchback concept. It will be showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show.
Details regarding the EQ electric hatchback are scarce at the moment, but reports suggest it will be powered by a front-mounted electric motor coupled with a fixed ration transmission. A high performance oriented model with dual motors might also join later.
Underpinning the Mercedes EQ electric hatchback will most likely be a multi-model vehicle architecture and it should offer a range of up to 300 miles. With the launch of new EQ electric hatchback, Mercedes will rival against the likes of BMW i3 and Volkswagen I.D. concept.
Mercedes also plans to make the electric hatchback affordable and reports hint the pricing could be around $45,000. It is expected to arrive at the dealerships sometime in 2020.
The automaker will also display other vehicles at the Frankfurt Auto Show including the Project One hypercar, GLC fuel cell vehicle, self-driving city car by Smart, new S-class and the X-Class Pickup truck.
