The diesel truck engine company has just revealed its latest Cummins all-electric truck concept dubbed as the Concept Class 7 Urban Hauler EV, and it may turn out to be a serious competitor to the Tesla all-electric semi-truck, which is scheduled to launch in September.
Built by Roush Performance, the Cummins all-electric truck concept is equipped with a 140 kWh battery pack. Weighing around 18,000 pounds, it has a payload capacity of approximately 44,000 pounds. The 140 kWh battery pack will take an hour to charge fully, but reports hint that by the time the Concept Class 7 Urban Hauler EV goes into production, the recharge time will be reduced to just 20 minutes.
The concept is expected to have a range of up to 100 miles, whereas the Tesla semi-truck is reported to extend a range of about 200 to 300 miles. Moreover, the truck concept features cameras instead of side mirrors for better aerodynamics.
Cummins also plans to add an extended-range model later in the lineup that will make use of a diesel engine to charge the truck’s battery. This system will help increase the range by up to 300 miles and will significantly cut emissions as well.
