The British automaker, Ariel is working on what is believed to be the world’s quickest-accelerating and most powerful electric hypercar generating up to 1,180 horsepower using electric motors and a turbine range extender. For those who don’t know, Ariel previously launched few lightweight performance cars including the Atom sports car and the Nomad off-roader. Codenamed P40, the Ariel electric hyper car will be carrying four independent electric motors each developing 295 bhp.

Each electric motor will be powered by a centrally mounted 42 kWh battery, plus a turbine range extender will also be installed above the rear electric motors. Talking to Autocar, Ariel officials stated that the electric hyper car will be the most powerful ever built. It will be capable of going from 0 to 100 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Besides a robust powertrain, the Ariel hyper car will also feature performance components such as a highly advanced traction control and torque vectoring system.

The body of the Ariel electric hypercar will be built with carbon-fiber to keep the weight low and improve the aerodynamics. It will be an all-wheel drive car, but the automaker is also considering a rear-wheel drive version powered by a 56 kWh battery pack.

The automaker will reveal more info about the hyper car later this month.
