The 2017 Pebble Beach Concours event will start from August 20th, and among some of the rarest sports cars on display will also be the 1971 BMW M1 Procar.
Only 40 examples of the M1 Procar were built in 1979 for the BMW M1 Procar Championship. This particular model which will be on display at Pebble Beach Concours was a backup car that did not race in the competition. Before selling it, BMW removed most of the racing parts to make the M1 Procar road legal.
It is equipped with a 3.5-liter straight-six engine developing 470 horsepower and allowing it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The top speed is capped at 190 mph. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
This particular model was restored by the racer, Bruce Canepa, who added performance upgrades including a huge rear wing, 7-inch BBS center-lock wheels, and Brembo brakes. On the inside, the BMW M1 Procar features black leather upholstery, while the exterior is covered in exclusive Basalt Blau paint.
The BMW M1 Procar will be showcased by The Thermal Club, which is a California based private motorsports club.
