The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) is setting a list of rules for self-driving cars including safety and technical regulations, which will be presented to a team of professionals during the Future Vehicles World 2017, which will be held in Dubai in November.
Abdulla Abdulqader Almaeeni, Director General of (ESMA), stated that ESMA is now concentrating on implementing the highest safety standards to match the technological advancements made by self-driving cars.
He added that this project will include a variety of rules for self-driving cars, infrastructure and communication systems. Both the owners and the manufacturers of such vehicles share some responsibilities and ESMA is preparing a list that defines the rules for both.
ESMA is collaborating with the Federal Authority for Marine and Land Transport, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority to set the boundaries for the regulations.
The Future Vehicles World 2017 event would welcome manufacturers, researchers and automotive industry specialists and decision makers from various bodies (local and federal). The presence of these bodies will help add significant input into the project.
