The German automaker is all set to reveal its all-new full-size 3-row SUV titled as BMW X7, that will debut in concept form most probably next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The bigger news is that, sources indicate the concept will be powered by a fuel cell powertrain.
This is not the first time BMW is using a fuel cell powertrain, it previously launched the BMW Hydrogen 7 sedan, which was equipped with a hydrogen internal combustion engine. It was a limited production model sold between 2005 and 2007. Besides, the BMW hydrogen fuel cell-powered i8 research vehicle was showcased in 2015.
Regarding the BMW X7, it will be the automaker’s largest SUV to date competing against the likes of Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover. It will be built at the BMW’s Spartanburg factory in the US, and along with the fuel-cell powertrain, a regular gasoline and a diesel unit will also be available.
Expect the BMW X7 to unveil in production form sometime next year, with sales starting in 2019. More details will be disclosed when it would make its debut in the concept form at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Here are some more details about the X7.
