A few weeks back Subaru showed interest in setting up a new lap record for a four-door sedan and it finally did, thanks to the custom built Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR special race car.

The race car was able to conquer the Nürburgring lap in just 6:57.5. Not just here, the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR also set lap records at the Isle of Man TT and the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb.

Talking about the race car itself, the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR takes its name from the WRX STI Type RA production car. It was built by the British motorsport and advanced engineering group based in Banbury, Prodrive and is equipped with a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four cylinder engine made for rally racing. This engine churns out over 600 horsepower making it almost twice powerful as the Type RA production car, which generates 310 horsepower.

Besides a sturdy engine, the Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR special race car was also fitted with 9-inch wide slick tires, adjustable rear-wing which the driver can control with the press of a button, a WRC gearbox with a rally-spec sequential transmission and more.

The official video of the record attempt will be revealed by Subaru shortly. The new 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA will arrive in the U.S. markets by 2018.
