Where new traffic laws in the UAE bring harsher punishments and black points for the motorists, Dubai’s white point system is in place to award the safe drivers in a big way. The system has completed a successful year in Dubai and now is ready to be rolled out in other Emirates of UAE.
Last year, Dubai Police honored RTA white points to 1,800 motorists to promote safe driving. The white points can be cashed in a number of ways and can even work to revoke some fines.
Anyone with a valid Dubai driving license and a Dubai-registered vehicle is eligible for Dubai’s white point system. However, the motorists must have a clean record meaning they should not have committed any violation, which includes Salik fines and Traffic fines. The eligible motorists can earn up to 12 white points in a year, one for each month, which is credited by the end of every month. The validity of these points is 1 year.
A white point is revoked on committing a violation. Those who earn white points for 5 continuous years are entered in a raffle draw.
Motorists with serious offense on their name would not qualify for white points for an entire year. Additionally, those who commit a violation driving someone’s else vehicle have to forgo the earned white points (both the owner and the driver).
