Volkswagen is set to launch its new electric car dubbed as the Volkswagen I.D. very soon, and it will be priced around $7,000 – $8,000 less than the Tesla Model 3. This was announced by Volkswagen chief strategist Thomas Sedran recently at the Automobil Forum held in Munich.
The Tesla Model 3 is believed to launch with a sticker price of $35,000, thus the VW I.D. concept might cost around $28,000. Regarding the I.D. electric car, VW told us that five models will be launched out of which one would be Europe-only, while the rest will be for China, USA and Europe.
The Tesla Model 3 is reported to have a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge, whereas the Volkswagen I.D. will be coming with an extending range of up to 370 miles.
Volkswagen vows to introduce 30 all-electric and hybrid models, and plans to produce 1 million vehicles by 2025. On the other hand, Tesla has similar plans but will be hoping to achieve them five years earlier than Volkswagen.
The new MEB platform which will underpin the VW I.D. will also be used across other upcoming EVs including the ID Crozz crossover.
