The new Lucid Air Electric Sedan prototype by Lucid Motors recently underwent a speed-test at Ohio’s Transportation Research Center where it managed to achieve a thundering top speed of 235.44 mph. This should really bother Tesla Motors, as their Model S is only capable of going up to 155 mph.

With that being said, it should be noted that the Lucid Air Electric Sedan prototype was given an unrestricted environment, which allowed it to accelerate as fast as possible. Reports say the actual production version will have a comparatively lower top speed and will also be heavier than the prototype, which was equipped with certain optimized aerodynamic elements.

The best part is that despite the powerful electric engine, Lucid Motors confirms, the Air Electric Sedan will not compromise on efficiency. The range-topping variant of the electric sedan will generate up to 1,000 horsepower and will have a range of up to 400 miles. The base model will churn out 400 horsepower with an estimated range of 240 miles.

The Air Electric sedan will be built at the company’s plant in Casa Grande, Arizona which is not fully functional yet. The deliveries will begin sometime in 2019. The base model is expected to fetch a price of about $60,000.
