The Jeddah Traffic Department has introduced a new traffic law in Saudi Arabia which forbids motorists to turn right at the red signal. Unfortunately, many motorists are not aware of it and have been caught off guard. Before this law was implemented, the motorists were allowed to take right turn after temporarily stopping at the red signal. But if you do it now, you will receive a fine of RS500 and serve in jail for 24 hours.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is notorious for its reckless motorists who mostly do not follow the traffic rules; they change lanes without warning, weave through traffic, run the red light, drive at high speed, and jump the queue.
The traffic department has implemented stricter rules to curb road accidents and educate motorists on rules like fastening the seat belt all the time, not turning right at the red traffic light signal, talking on the phone while driving, wrong parking, not having a driver’s license and other documents.
Though, this is a healthy initiative to make roads safer in Saudi Arabia, but there is a need to first educate the motorists on these rules. This is what most drivers voiced over this new traffic rule in Saudi Arabia.
