The Mercedes Maybach and AMG are both different sub brands of the German automaker and although the two have not yet collaborated to develop a Maybach-AMG model but the automaker has recently revealed that the upcoming 2018 Mercedes-Maybach S650 sedan will carry an AMG-sourced V12 engine.
The same AMG 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 engine is also found in other models including SL65, S65 and G65. It delivers 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque and according to carscoops.com, this engine will allow the S650 sedan to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. The power will be delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The S65 sedan with the same engine and platform does 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds but that is because it weighs considerably lower than the S650. Reports indicate that the S650 will weigh over 5,000 pounds.
Mercedes has not yet announced the pricing details but it will definitely cost over $226,000, which is the price of regular S65 sedan. With the launch of 2018 Mercedes-Maybach S650 sedan, the automaker will be directly competing against the likes of the Bentley Flying Spur W12 S.
More details will be revealed in the coming months.
