The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT4 was previewed in concept form a few months back at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show and now the automaker has begun the testing procedures of the new sedan. The prototype was caught testing somewhere on the roads and it closely resembles the concept.
Talking about the design, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 looks similar to the GT Sports car. However, up front, it features more enhanced LED headlamps, while the overall length of the hood has been shortened. The wheelbase has been stretched for better interior space.
At the back, it adopts a true fastback profile and sports stylish taillights and a center fitted exhaust tip. Reports indicate the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT4 won’t be using the stretched version of the GT sports car platform. Instead, it will ride on the RA rear-wheel-drive architecture, which also underpins the Mercedes C and E-Class models. AMG is expected to further improve the architecture and work toward reducing the overall weight of the car.
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is expected to carry an AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine developing up to 500 horsepower. A hybrid variant might also launch after some time with a total output of around 805 horsepower.
More details regarding the AMG GT4 will be uncovered soon by the automaker.
