Despite losing its throne to VW as the largest automaker in terms of sale, Toyota is still most valuable automaker in the world, valued at $28.7 billion.

BrandZ released its customer centric Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list for 2017, in which Toyota topped in the automaker category with BMW achieving second position valued at $24.6 billion. BMW’s long-term competitor and compatriot, Mercedes-Benz, got third position with brand valuation of $23.5 billion. Fascinatingly, both Toyota and BMW saw a dip in their brand value by 3 and 8 percent respectively, compared to last year, while Mercedes improved its score by 8 percent.

A brief look at the study conducted by consumerreports.org on cost of ownership reveals that Toyota and its brands, Lexus & Scion, cost the least to maintain across various automobile categories. Another similar grading discloses that 6 out of 10 top contenders with lowest cost of ownership are Toyota and its sub brands, with Toyota Prius topping the charts.

Tesla beats huge brands like Porsche and Land Rover, recording a massive improvement of 32 percent compared to last year valuation.

Google, Apple and Microsoft are the current top brands in the world, all recording improved brand value by 7,3 and 18 percent respectively compared to previous year.
