DCAS, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, has announced that in a bid to improve its operations, they are forfeiting free ambulance service. First affectees of this new regulation will be the residents of Dubai. Later, it will even encompass the visitors. The decision has been finalized and will be implemented by the year end.
DCAS spokesperson elaborated that the initiative is not aimed at generating income, rather it is to improve their services and play their part in the development of sustainable health sector in Emirates. Patients could use their insurance cards for payment, and those without any, will be offered free ambulance service, strictly on humanitarian grounds.
With the inclusion of 5 Mustangs, costing Dh1 million each, DCAS operates one of the biggest fleets in the world; 177 ambulances, strategically stationed at 68 localities across Dubai. With implementation of this new law, DCAS aims to self-fund its operational costs.
