A video of a man thrown out of vehicle on two wheels has gone viral, sparking strong reaction from Saudis across the country. The 9-second video clip shows a man standing out of an SUV being driven on 2 wheels on a busy highway. As soon as the driver lands the car on its four wheels, the man hanging out was thrown on the road. The clip doesn’t provide any information what happened to the guy, but does spark a debate and demand stringent actions against drifters.
People are asking police and law enforcing agencies to take stringent actions against law deterrers. Though drifting is resented by majority of Saudi society, young men tend to dabble in this risky sport for sheer adrenaline rush, putting theirs and lives of many others on road in danger.
Fines and punishments for drifting has been increased tenfold since last August:
First time offender | 20,000 riyals fine
Refer to court |
Vehicle impounded for 15 days |
Second time offender | 40,000 riyals fine
Refer to court |
Vehicle impounded for 30 days |
Third time offender | 60,000 riyals fine
Refer to court Additional fine if he uses a stolen or rental vehicle |
Vehicle confiscated |
Previously fines were SR1000, SR1,500 and SR2,000 for first, second and third time offender respectively.
